No, hard boiling an egg is not rocket science. Yes, I call my mom almost every time I do it.
Why?
Because nothing ruins an egg salad sandwich faster than an undercooked egg. But how can you tell when an egg is perfectly boiled and ready to be slathered with mayonnaise and nestled between carbs?
Poke it with a fork? Wait until it turns a nice golden brown? Smell it? You see my point. Hence my monthly 8am phone call to my mom:
Hi mom.
Hi, dear.
How do you boil an egg again?
Sigh
Mom! Just tell me. Is it ten minutes? Or seven?
Fifteen.
Ok. Pot uncovered, right?
Sigh
Oh, yeah! Covered. Sorry. I forgot. It’s early.
Bring it to a boil uncovered, then remove it from the heat and cover the pot.
Mom. You’re the best.
Anything else?
No, that’s it. Just didn’t want to ruin my sandwich. Nothing ruins an egg salad sandwich faster than an undercooked egg.
Silence
Love you!
Mmm hmmm. Bye, dear.

I think boiling an egg is one of the most difficult things in cooking! Thanks to you and your mom for breaking it down for Olivia and I! We’ll let you know how our next batch comes out!
Your pictures are amazing!!!
I love this! This is how I boil my eggs and they come out perfect every time! Amazing how well that works. I tried a recipe from a crockpot cookbook to boil eggs over night… fail! They came out with gray shells and burnt throughout… I was lucky they didnt explode! Love your pics too!
Thanks, guys!
